I’m often approached by independent recording artists who want me to listen to their work. Initially, I’m always happy to oblige because half of my business is based on listening to mixes and offering personalized, technical feedback. Sometimes those inquiries are a bit more confusing.
If I’m presented with a song that has already been mastered and (even more puzzling) released, I can only ask them why they want me to listen to it. Then they become confused and say, “I thought that’s what you did for a living.” I can only laugh and say, “I can’t help if it’s done.”
At that point in many such cases, I begin to realize that the inquiring artist really just wants some validation or reassurance. I think that should come from existing and new fans, not a producer who had no input on the result and can do nothing to change it.
As always, if you need an objective analysis of your mixes in progress and could benefit from some personalized, technical direction so that you don’t need to wade through endless, generic tutorial videos, hit me up. I’d be happy to assist you.
