A few months back, I was in a mixing session with one of my assistants and it was time to start panning instruments.
Every time a client exports mono tracks, they come in as stereo. So, in this case, when I asked my assistant if a certain track was mono or stereo, she informed me that it was stereo.
I said, “Go ahead and mono-tize it.”
“Monetize it?” she asked.
“No,” I explained, “I mean mono-tize it as in make it mono.”
It took her a second but she found the humor. I quickly realized that I might be on to something because, while it may be humorous, I think it’s a term that could catch on in the world of audio production.
There you go. You heard it here first.
